The Infant Jesus Basketball Program is a member of the Infant Jesus Sports Association, a sports ministry of the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Port Jefferson, N.Y.. Our program also participates in the Catholic Youth Organization of Nassau/Suffolk.

Our organization is made up entirely of parents and community volunteers dedicated to serving the youth of our surrounding communities.  We currently have participants form the Mount Sinai,  Port Jefferson, Comsewogue (Port Jeff Station), and Three Village School districts.

Infant Jesus Basketball is an instructional program providing an intramural program for Boys and Girls in Grades K to 9 (Girls) 10 (Boys).  In addition, a more competitive CYO travel program is available for Boys and Girls Grades 5 to 12. The goal of the program is to develop the skills of all players and to promote good sportsmanship.  But, most of all, we must continue to create an environment that fosters both learning and fun.

Our program continues to grow.  This year we will have approximately 700 children playing and using facilities from 5 school districts.  We have increased the number of our younger age divisions to accommodate the explosion of demand in this area. We participate in an inter-parish program made up of parishes in the surrounding area. Our CYO travel program has expanded to allow more players to participate at a higher level.  For our younger players, CYO should be something to look forward to, as their basketball skills develop.  For the regular program, we continue to develop our coaching staff, provide certified referees, and increase our use of electronic scoreboards, all giving the players a stronger sense of the game and adding to their development and excitement.

The goal of the program is to develop the skills of all players and to promote good sportsmanship.  But, most of all, we must continue to create an environment that fosters both learning and fun.  Without fun there is no game!  If you were with us last season, welcome back.  If you are new, we can ensure you that you will enjoy the program.  Please remember to  strictly adhere to our programs Rules of Conduct.

PLEASE be respectful and treat our facilities with the utmost care.  Please clean up after yourself at all times - all water bottles, wrappers, etc. should be placed in the trash and bathrooms should be kept neat and clean. All siblings of players should remain under parent supervision at all times.  We are guests in any facility we use and are privileged to get the gym space that we do.  Without the generosity of the surrounding school districts we would have no program.

We hope this website will answer most of your questions.  If not, please contact your Coach, Division Representative, or any Board Member.  We are all volunteers, and we’re here to help!

So don’t forget. You can help too!!!!

If you can spare an hour or two each week, please let us know.  We can always use additional help tending to our 700 “future stars” and we promise this will be a VERY REWARDING experience for you.

A tremendous THANK YOU goes out to all who contributed their time and energy to make this program a success, particularly our many sponsors and volunteers.

Remember Mom & Dad, Grandma & Grandpa, brother & sister, cheering from the sidelines is what makes the Program SPECIAL.  Nothing is better than seeing that ear-to-ear “SMILE”

See YOU in the GYM !!!!!

A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR

FATHER CHUCK ROMANO

Hello again as we celebrate another successful and fun-filled year of Infant Jesus Basketball.  I hope that you have enjoyed this season as you learned more about the game of basketball, playing on a team, developing your talents and all while making friends at the same time.

I think that now, more than ever, we all need to have our sports as an opportunity to relax, enjoy ourselves with one another, and all while recognizing the goodness of God in all our lives.  The ability we have to play, to develop our talents, to practice teamwork and good sportsmanship all contribute in our formative years to a well rounded adult.

Our CYO Infant Jesus Basketball program aims at all these goals while serving hundreds of our parish and community's youth.  The dedication and commitment of our Board under Bart Ruben's leadership in union with all the coaches, coordinators and many other helpers is the key to our success each year.  The witness of so much Time and Talent is to be lauded.

The older I get the fonder do my memories of playing sports as a kid and in high school.  I know that some of the good that I am now is attributed to what I learned and experienced while playing sports.  I hope that you can all say the same as you grow up.

So once again, congratulations to everyone and a special thanks to all our sponsors, the behind the scenes people, and the parents.  Kids, always remember to try your best and most of all have fun doing it.  God bless always!

Father Chuck Romano

Pastor, Infant Jesus Parish

A Letter From Our President Emeritus

Hello and welcome all children, families and coaches to another exciting season of Infant Jesus Basketball.  As those of you who are already involved in our program know Infant Jesus Basketball is a wonderful enrichment program where we try to incorporate the fundamentals of life into basketball.  Traits such as Friendship, Teamwork, and Sportsmanship are instilled in the children of our program through excellent coaching and experience such as games and practices.

As a basketball referee, official, and avid sports fan I have come to notice in recent years the lack of good sportsmanship presented in the media and through the actions of selective sports icons.  The message that winning is everything has grow much more prominent in the media.  It has become harder than ever for parents and coaches to teach kids that it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game that's important.  It refreshes and inspires me to know that Infant Jesus Basketball is about more than the “win at all cost” philosophy.  Conduct that is fair, respect for ones opponent and graciousness in winning or losing are some of the most difficult lessons a child will face.  This can be done through the help of every coach and parent we can instill these important lessons not only in our children's game time but in there everyday lives.

I would like to give an extra special thank you to all of our Business Sponsors, Coaches and Assistant Coaches, all of our wonderful Board Members, Father Chuck Romano and all of the families and children. It is because of you that Infant Jesus has become a premier basketball program on Long Island.  Thank you for your continuous support and dedication!

Sincerely;

Bart Ruben
